The winner of this category will have displayed exceptional blue sky thinking to potentially create a technological solution to a real world problem. Current students will be expected to prove significant progress has been made on developing the idea and have evidence of interest from industry. The winning project will more than likely be a team and will describe academic rigour as well as innovative and clear thinking about potential future commercial applications.

Knowledge is power and this category seeks to shine a welcome spotlight on the very best examples of how exemplar pieces of research can help to resolve commercial sticking points. The winners of this category will be able to clearly describe the commercial imperative behind the research as well as how the conclusions have been translated into action. Entrants will need to describe the details of the research project and prove its commercial ramifications.
